In doing background reading about pilgrimages, I was most impressed by Phil Cousineau’s book, The Art of Pilgrimage: the Seeker’s Guide to Making Travel Sacred (Conari Books: Berkeley, CA, ), which my daughter Megan chanced on while browsing in a bookstore. The book suggests that going on a pilgrimage, linked to whatever religious. The (11th Century) Negrentino Romanesque church of San Carlo, is located on the old Nara mule-track, and richly deserves a visit. It is indeed one of the most remarkable in Ticino, renowned thanks to its stunning architectural layout as well as its precious Romanesque and late-Gothic frescoes.
